Onthatile Omphile Mogotsi (22) from Mabopane block UX hosted his second ice cream fundraising event yesterday to raise funds to support needy kids with donations.
Mr Mogotsi of Mabopane UX is selling ice cream with the help of his family to achieve his goal of fundraising for the poor.
For a large ice cream meal it will set you back only R65, medium R50 but if you donated sanitary towels you will pay half price.
Residents of Mabopane were invited to the event that was sponsored by team BMW, Stance and Bikers.
Mr Mogotsi said he stressed about whether this idea will appeal to the community.
“I wondered if people will come and if they will enjoy the ice cream but the turnout was overwhelming at 97% of what we had hoped for.
“That encouraged me because it indicated that we were successful and will be able to achieve our goal of donating to the needy charity home, Lesedi La Batho.
“It will actually be a surprise gift as they had no idea that we are doing this for them. We identified them after our research indicated that they hardly ever have enough to fulfill their goals and objectives,” Mr Mogotsi said.
He said he is thankful for the support from the community to make this event a success including the sponsors, BMW, Stance and bikers.
Currently, he is not operating under an NGO and he funded the initiative through his company and sponsorship.
Mr Mogotsi said they are currently planning for their next event which will take place in September.
