Metrorail has announced the closure of train service operations between Mabopane and Pretoria for a period of 90 days (3 months) starting from 15 August 2021.

The train operator said the closure is to allow for the mega construction work to start to help the railway infrastructure network that was totally damaged and robbed before and during the 2020 level 5 lockdown period.

“The work to be done is aimed at bringing immediate benefits to commuters that the new modernised infrastructure will be safer, faster, smoother and world-class train service with better travelling times.

“Projects that will be implemented on this line includes the rehabilitation of the station, resignalling, wall fencing, construction of bridges, rehabilitation of tractions substation and rehabilitation of overhead track equipment,” said Metrorail in a statment.
